Multilingual Interpreter (Independent Contractor)

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

• Provide consecutive interpretation for online meetings, client discussions, interviews, and project briefings
• Support communication among international creators, companies, and project partners
• Interpret on site at exhibitions, events, filming sessions, recordings, and other project locations
• Review meeting materials, scripts, agendas, and questions in advance and prepare relevant terminology
• Translate and refine short-form emails, chat messages, presentation materials, and project documents
• Summarize key decisions, action items, and points requiring confirmation after meetings
• Research terminology in generative AI, film, design, advertising, media, and technology
• Advise project teams on cultural context, business customs, and communication nuances
• Coordinate schedules, roles, and communication processes with project stakeholders

Your language combination, interpretation format, and scope of work will be agreed on for each project based on its needs and your experience.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• Native or near-native proficiency in at least one language other than English and Japanese
• Business-level English, including the ability to participate in meetings, interpret discussions, and communicate professionally in writing
• Business-level Japanese, including the ability to understand business context and communicate accurately with Japanese stakeholders
• Professional experience in consecutive or business interpretation
• The ability to understand intent and context and convey meaning clearly and appropriately across cultures
• Confidence using video conferencing, messaging, and cloud-based collaboration tools
• Sound judgment in handling confidential information, intellectual property, and personal data

Previous interpretation experience in AI or the creative industries is not required. We welcome people who can independently research the terminology and context needed for each assignment.

• Professional translation, editing, transcreation, or localization experience

• Knowledge of regional business practices and cultural conventions relevant to your native language
• Interest in or hands-on experience with generative AI and creative tools

Depending on business needs and mutual interest, a transition to an employment agreement may be considered

Compensation will be proposed and finalized after the second interview, based on your experience, skills, scope of responsibilities, and availability.

Before work begins, the scope, compensation, payment schedule, and other terms will be provided in writing or electronically.

How the Process Works

2. Introductory Conversation

   We’ll meet online to discuss your experience and the work you hope to take on. We’ll also introduce AI Creators and explain the role in more detail.

3. Second Interview and Terms

   Before the second interview, we’ll ask you to submit your résumé or CV and relevant work history. We’ll then discuss responsibilities, availability, compensation, and a potential start date.

4. Contract and Onboarding

   Once both parties agree to the terms and the independent contractor agreement is signed, onboarding begins. The number and format of interviews may vary.
